From honoring bands' "No Airfreight" policies to the simple act of sending out 100% recycled paper in our printers, we are doing our part to reduce the amount of waste generated by our industry. When we load in a show, we run cable. Sometimes we run a lot of cable, but we make sure that when we leave, it comes with us. Most gets sent out on other shows and what can't be used is sent to a recycling center.
We make sure that empty laser printer toner and inkjet cartridges get recycled too. We send prepaid shipping labels with our printers and can make arrangements to have personal cartridges picked up too. Just ask us.
Things you can do to reduce waste around the Production Office:
- When printing multi-page memos and rooming lists, print on both sides of the paper. Some printers have a duplex printing feature that will reverse the paper and print the other side automatically.
- Don't print email unless you really have to. You might have seen an email with the winding road and tree and a message like, "Please consider the environment before printing this email." You can add that to your own email. Here's how:
|
If your email program can handle rich text or html, then you can have the complete signature. The picture of the tree that is being used in this case is actually the letter P using the Webdings font. Then, simply write the message and make the whole thing green. Now you are all set! |
- Ask the venue to provide paper recycling bins in the office.
- Recycle empty toner cartridges. Many companies offer recycling programs for their toner and ink cartridges. See the Printer Info page for more information.
